Looking at homes in Frisco TX, Plano or McKinney to buy? Each community is unique, but they all share one thing in common. NerdWallet has determined that these three cities are among the top ten best places to live in Texas, ranking Frisco #3, McKinney #5 and Plano #7.

NerdWallet studied the 50 most populous cities in Texas and based its rankings on several quality-of-life indicators, including home ownership rates, commute time, unemployment rates, education, crime and accessibility by walking to a city’s amenities.

Of the three cities, Frisco topped the list based on the strength of its high homeownership rate of 75.5 percent. NerdWallet also rated Frisco well because of its excellent school system, which ranks in the 92^nd percentile – second highest on the list. The website noted that Frisco residents have a lot of fun, with cricket and football leagues, and a Frisco Summer Fun Guide that provides other options. The city also has miles of biking and hiking trails.

NerdWallet noted that McKinney takes pride in its motto of “unique by nature,” which refers to its historic downtown, charming neighborhoods, hills and streams. The personal finance website gave McKinney high marks for its low unemployment rate of 3 percent, and a crime-risk score of “most safe” in a place that has been one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. for the past decade.

Plano is the largest city in NerdWallet’s top ten, rating very well for transportation. The city earned a walk score of 36 – likely due to Plano’s 35 miles of trails, and a commute time of 25 minutes. The community is also very active, offering flag football and softball teams as well as a commitment to volunteering. NerdWallet noted that Plano’s schools ranked in the 75^th percentile, when compared with districts statewide, and it received the “most safe” rating for crime risk.
