The 47,000 square foot skate park is the result of the joint efforts of the city council, Parks and Recreation board, and members of the local community. The city used public forums to ask residents what features should be included in the design process. This resulted in a skate park that’s designed for skaters by skaters.
Skating enthusiasts can take advantage of the park’s multi-depth bowl, half pipe, and rails, along with a concrete wave that measures 16 feet. Best of all, the skate park can be used with bikes, in-line skates, and scooters as well as skateboards.
The park is an invaluable resource for promoting active living, which supports the well-being and growth of the entire community. City planners want to establish a premier park system for Frisco, and the new park is a major step in achieving that goal. Future developments for the park include courts for basketball, volleyball and tennis, as well as a splash pad.
The cost of developing the Northeast Community Park and Skate Park has been estimated at $17.5 million. Funding was made possible by contributions from Frisco’s Parks and Recreation Board, the Frisco Community Development Corporation, and bonds that were approved by the city’s voters.
