How to Create a Budget Friendly Backyard Fire Pit

One of the features many people look for when buying a new home in Frisco TX is the backyard. If you’re someone who enjoys outdoor entertaining, a fire pit is a great addition to your home. Imagine spending your nights roasting marshmallows or enjoying a glass of wine around a self-contained fire that offers heat, beauty and elegance. Best of all, you don’t have to break the bank to install a fire pit. Here are a few ideas to spark your imagination.

Recycled Materials – Old bricks or pavers can be recycled to create a rustic look for your fire pit. You’ll need to dig a hole, line the perimeter and bottom of the hole with bricks and fill in the spaces with pea gravel or some other landscape stone. The stone will help to keep your walls and floor in place. If you’re handy with power tools, you can also recycle other items to create a fire pit, such as an old washing machine drum. Sarah from the House & Fig blog shows you how to do this in 7 easy steps.

Concrete Fire Pits – Concrete is a durable material to use as a fire pit. You can easily create a fire pit for under $100 using this substance. Concrete pavers can be used to line the fire pit walls and floor. Or you can go full-on DIY and make your own concrete fire pit from scratch. Tools and materials needed include concrete mix, an extra-large bowl or shallow planter for the exterior mold, and a large bowl for the interior mold. You can read the full instructions from the ManMade blog.

Multi-Purpose Fire Pit – A fire pit doesn’t have to serve just one purpose. It could double as a table and/or a gameboard with the addition of a cover. Cypress wood is good for this purpose since it’s resilient to moisture and temperature. The All Things Heart and Home blog shows you how to create this DIY fire pit cover & game table.

Before installing a fire pit, make sure the site you choose is at least 15 feet away from any structure and is close to a water source for safety. Also, the ground should be reasonably flat, especially if you’re digging a pit.
